Plan for Future Needs

When wiring your home for smart technology, you should remember that today's cutting-edge technology might change next year. If it does, you want to make sure that your home is prepared for the changes. You can do that by beginning with the terminal boxes. Make sure that when you're setting up the enclosures for all your terminals and circuits, you leave enough room to accommodate your changing electrical needs. If you plan on making additions to the size of your home, you should also install empty terminal boxes near the area where you plan on building the additions. This will ensure that you have the necessary wiring to branch off from.

Avoid Terminal Clutter

When it comes to wiring your new home, one of the worst things you can do is leave clutter in the terminal box. Without proper organization, all those wires and cables will just get stuffed into the box. If that happens, you're going to have a hard time identifying wires and cables should the need arise, such as during an emergency repair. That's why you need to use terminal blocks when installing the wires and cables. Terminal blocks ensure that all your wires and cables are kept separate, secure, and well-organized.

Know What You're Working With

You may know what all your circuits are when you first install your wiring. However, that might all change after a few years, or even a few months. When it does, you want to be prepared. Not knowing what goes where in your terminal box can spell disaster. To avoid confusion, and electrical accidents, always know what you're working with. The easiest way to do that is to label your circuits as you install them.
